In the morning of March 21st, the opening ceremony of the 4th Life Science Festival organized by Life Science College was held in the Small Auditorium of the tenth teaching building in Ya'an Campus. In the ceremony, Dr. Jim Peacock, Dr. Liz Dennis and postdoctoral Dr. Li Wang all from CSIRO/UTS were invited to attend. Secretary of the party committee of the Rice Research Institute Dr. Wu Xianjun Institute, Dean of Life Science College Dr. Xianyin Zeng and Secretary of the party committee of Life Science College Dr. Chunbang Ding, attended the ceremony. The ceremony was chaired by Dr, Xianyin Zeng.
Dr. Li Wang did an academic report titled “HYBRIDS and HYBRID MIMICS: a new breeding technology for Rice”. In this report, Dr. Li Wang introduced the application of simulation of heterosis in rice breeding. Such new rice breeding technology is characterized by short cultivation time and genetically stable inheritance. The exciting content aroused great interest among teachers and students. The three experts conducted in-depth exchanges with teachers and students about scientific research work, personal interest, future goals, the whole life planning, as well as their relations with each other.
The Life Science Festival is a featured brand activity that was created and developed by the Life Science College. Totally, this time the Life Science Festival includes nine different thematic activities: “exploring the microscopic world”, “creating colorful life”, “appreciating biological movies”, “deciphering life password”, “conducting fun experiments”, “enjoying the biological environment”, “Talking with the returned teachers, “Listening to the stories of studying Abroad”. These activities will subsequently last for 10 months, including topics such as academic salons, technological innovations, and knowledge competitions. It has served as a platform for facilitating students’ interest development and skills upgrading, demonstrating the distinct education features of Life Science College.
